Location Spotlight: New Britain Museum of American Art

We like to take some time on the blog to spotlight those exclusive partners we work with on events and highlight some of the reasons hosting at these venues can create a magnificent experience.

The New Britain Museum of Art has been a long-time friend and an exclusive partner of Riverhouse Catering. We’ve already talked a little about the beauty and history of the property and all it has to offer for weddings at the museum, but in this post, we’ll look closely at some of the other magnificent ways you can utilize the museum for a breathtaking celebration, meeting or other events.

New Britain Museum of American Art

Located in New Britain, Connecticut, and founded in 1903, this museum is one of the nation’s most distinguished art museums and has been recognized as the first museum in the country devoted exclusively to American art.

Presently, work from world-renowned artist Georgia O’Keefe is on exhibit at the museum as part of “The Beyond: Georgia O’Keeffe and Contemporary Art” tour. This is the only northeast venue to see the exhibition and will be on display through June.

From enormous flowers to landscapes, luscious colors and hints of femininity on display, this exhibit celebrates her work and legacy and provides the perfect backdrop for a brunch or other upcoming event.

Now, picture this…

The spring or summer season are in full bloom. Your event starts out in the exhibit hall surrounded by larger than life art, some of the most beautiful depictions of American Modernism by Georgia O’Keeffe herself. After a cocktail hour admiring her works, your guests are taken to the 2,010- square-foot, cherry-paneled Stanley Works Center on the premises overlooking picturesque Walnut Hill Park through eight floor-to-ceiling windows. Accommodating up to 150 guests for a sit-down or buffet dinner or 285 for a standing reception.

For smaller events and meetings there’s an additional location to rent as well, the Moser Library, where you can gather while still offering guests the opportunity to flow freely throughout the galleries, viewing the art while sipping wine and dining on delicious hors d’oeuvres. There’s also an outdoor terrace connected to the Café that can be an extension of your rental space, allowing extra seating, bars, or perhaps just conversation space.
